Progress is progress!

I didn't get many photos of this engine when I originally assembly it in 2009 to show the knife edged, balanced and nitrided LD28 crank. Might as well take photos now!

The bearing wear looked very normal and the ring gaps were all within Hasting's specifications so the 3.0l bottom end is going back together. Pistons have been fly cut to give additional piston to valve clearance at TDC to open up camshaft options šŸ˜Ž

RB30 crank top, L28 crank bottom.

I was able to find this RB30 crank for a little more than scrap value. If it checks out it'll be incorporated into the L6 stroker drag motor and will give 85mm standard stroke (2mm extra over the LD28).

For those outside Australia the Nissan RB30E was a SOHC EFI motor used in Skylines, Patrols and VL Commodores towards the end of the 80s and we have/had heaps of them.

With machining the RB30 crank will fit the L series block. There is the option to offset side grind the conrod journal for additional stroke. Side by side the journal centres are the same, journal width is smaller on the RB.

One of these stacks is not like the others, one of these stacks is not quite the same.

In an effort to obtain a more accurate temperature measurement of the air entering the intake as part of air charge calculation, I thought what better place for the IAT than in the stack.

The prototype was testing on a running engine to see if the IAT caused a difference in flows but not deviation in flow was found from the average.

Hey guys!

I'm not sure if I've asked before. I'm interested to know why you have decided to follow my channel. I appreciate your time if you decide to complete the poll or leave a comment! šŸ‘

The free dynamic compression ratio estimator spreadsheet is up on my new website.

 https://builtonpurpose.com.au/what-is-dynamic-compression-ratio/

Why use this? It takes into account camshaft properties and when the intake valve closes to give a more accurate estimate of the real in cylinder compression!

In hindsight a proprietary fuse and relay box, like a Eaton Bussmann, would have been more logical than this mess.

This mess is still progress and is all for the Emtron EFI harness, no modification to the OEM 240Z body harness.

Funny how some braided sleeving can make a seemly random pile of wires start to look like a harness!

Some progress photos from the weekend of the new Emtron EFI harness. There is at least 4 months planning here, with many revisions and just about every pin on the SL6 is used.

If you're an Aussie car person your kind of obliged to spend some time in the shed during the Bathurst 1000.

I took the time to assemble and test fit the final design prototype of the ITB plenum. The design is split about the axis plane of the stacks simply because there is insufficient room to install the plenum in a single piece.

The remaining task is to model in fixtures then its time for the final print!

Hi guys,

Apologies for the absence. I have not had much progress to make a new video. The gearbox is out however šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Also Iā€™d like to thank my newest Patreons Kenyon and Datsun_285Z! Many thanks for your support!
